Excerpt 1
“Maybe you need a husband.”
A what now?
Thatcher’s attempt to lighten the mood by making a goofy joke wasn’t funny. He had no way of knowing how unhappy her marriage had been, though, so she tried to keep her tone light. “If you’re trying to be humorous, stick to knock-knock jokes.”
“I’m serious.” His stare was so intense he didn’t even blink. “Marriage could solve some of your problems immediately.”
“And create a heap more.” She’d already had a husband, and he’d left her with nothing. It was time to make it clear to Thatcher that this topic of conversation was officially closed. “I heard about Beatie and Dutch playing matchmaker with Sadie and Mick, but I didn’t expect it from you, too. Now, I’m going to take this salad out to the dining room and we can forget this conversation ever happened.” She gathered the glass bowl and turned away.
“What if it’s me?”
She stopped. Rotated back to face him. “What did you say?”
He looked her straight in the eye, his cocoa-dark eyes soft. “You could marry me, Bliss.”
The dish slipped from her hands and shattered at her feet.
Excerpt 2
He must have caught the way her gaze held on a simple but elegant marquise-cut diamond on an unadorned gold band, because he tapped the glass over it. “Could we see this one, please?”
The clerk handed it over, so she might as well try it on.
And then she had to blink to keep the tears at bay.
“What’s wrong?” Thatcher leaned sideways against the counter. “If you hate that one, try another.”
That wasn’t the problem at all. “I don’t hate it.”
“Ah.” His lips twitched. “It’s pretty, Bliss.”
“It is.”
“And it’s perfect on your hand, like it was made just for you.”
“It’s the right size and everything.” She wished she didn’t like it so much, but it was precisely the style of ring she always imagined when she was a girl.
“Do you want to try another one?” She could hear the smile in his voice.
She shook her head. “I don’t need this. I’m fine with a plain band, Thatcher.”
“You deserve better than fine, Bliss. And this will be on your finger for a long time.”
My Thoughts
A Rancher for Easter is the first book I've read by Susanne Dietze, and frankly, I look forward to reading more of her works.
The sweet chemistry between Bliss and Thatcher is precious. Their faith is inspirational. I liked that they each prayed about the big decisions, big problems, and even the small things. Their kindness toward each other and to Juniper is so sweet to watch.
Any story with a single parent, a special needs child, a service dog, is my kind of story. If that's what you like in a story, too, then this is a must-read. Be sure to add it to your TBR list.
I received a complimentary copy. These opinions are my own.
