My Thoughts

A Slight Change of Plans is a relatable story on several levels, I found. Both Jenny and Ren had painful childhoods, which bleed into their adulthoods. Both had been pushed away by others.

Jenny felt

"The message was clear. She didn't matter. She was disposable."

"There must be someone who wanted her for herself."

"God treated her like everyone else had. Invisible. Not there. Unnoticed."

I will admit to having similar feelings, myself. (Who wouldn't, after three failed marriages?) She began learning that God did care for her, even if she thought: "That's hard to fathom. If He loves me, why do I feel so worthless?"

The relationship between Ren and Jenny is sweet, and their growing relationship with God is inspiring. Sometimes we can have our lives all planned out, then God comes along and says, "Those are not My plans. Trust Me. Follow Me. I will lead you in the way you should go."

Then there's Bert, the town rooster. Yes, literally, a rooster! He is the town guardian. He'll steal your heart, and make you laugh.

If you enjoy Christian historical fiction, with moving messages of God's love and care, I recommend you add A Slight Change of Plans to your TBR list.
