Very Last First Time

#AtoZChallenge 2024 letter V

Today I'll share another of my favorite picture books that I experienced with my children in our home school.

Very Last First Time is about a young Inuit girl, in a northern Canadian village, who goes collecting mussels from the bottom of the frozen sea. Every winter in the past Eva has gone mussel collecting with her mother. This winter she is able to go alone. It's her very last first time to walk on the bottom of the sea, under the ice, alone.

The illustrations are lovely. It's also a unique and intriguing introduction to another culture. The child in your life is sure to be captured by this sweet book.

  1. Your brief review makes me wish my grandson was 6, not 19! It sounds like a wonderful book.
