Admittedly, I am of the era where we were not allowed to use calculators in school. I'll further admit that I never have prevented my children from using calculators themselves in their schoolwork. Only one of my children had a scientific calculator in high school, though, until now. Thanks to Triad Math, Inc., SJ is able to learn how to use this calculator using Mastering the TI-30Xa Scientific Calculator Augmented Intelligence for all 21st Century Students.

Mastering the TI-30Xa is a combination of an online self-paced interactive program and a physical worktext. Your student will work on lessons through the Moodle platform. Each lesson consists of: pre-test, notes (which are pdfs which can be downloaded and/or printed off), video lesson, exercises, answers to those exercises, post-test, and forum. The worktext consists of the pdfs that are contained in the online resources.

Lessons 1-15 cover such topics as real numbers, negative numbers, multiply and divide, percentage, square, fractions, and fraction to decimal conversions, topics suitable for pre-algebra and algebra. If your student is ready for trigonometry, lessons 16-20 will prove beneficial. Lessons 21-25 are especially for STEM students. I am certain your student will be relieved, and excited, to learn what all those special keys on the scientific calculator are supposed to be used for!

I wish I had been able to use this course for my three older offspring. I am sure they would have found it quite beneficial. SJ has such a busy schedule, he hasn't been able to cover as many lessons as we'd like. His learning disabilities also make academics quite a challenge. Because math has always been his favorite subject, though, I still have hopes of having him work his way through the course.
