Introduction #5DaysOfNatureStudy {Not Back to School Blog Hop}

This week is the annual "Not Back to Homeschool Blog Hop" for the Homeschool Review Crew. I hope you will join us throughout the week!

If you're a regular follower of my blog, you know that one of my passions is nature. My parents are "to blame" for that, because they raised my brothers and me to love nature, and to enjoy time spent in the mountains, in the woods, at the beach, anywhere in the great out-of-doors.

This week, I want to share a little about how to incorporate nature study into your homeschool life. I won't claim to be an expert, because I'm definitely not. I'll just share a little of what I do know.

What is nature study, anyway? My definition is spending time in nature, observing the things God has created, recording those observations, and listening to God speak through His second book: nature.

Why study nature? To learn more about God, our Creator. Your children (and you!) will learn to respect and care for the earth, and the interrelationships between humans and the habitat. Children will learn how they affect the environment, and how the environment affects them.

The Bible says, "Consider the lilies how they grow." (Matthew 6:28; Luke 12:27) "Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise." (Proverbs 6:6) "I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help." (Psalm 121:1) "The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands." (Psalm 19:1) "But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish in the sea inform you. Which of all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind." (Job 12:7-10, NIV) Join us again tomorrow; I'll be sharing a few resources for nature study. Also, grab a cup of tea or coffee, iced, if you prefer, and read through my Crew Mates' 5 Days of Home School... posts.
